Your BMI, in plain numbers.
Enter your height and weight to see your body mass index, the CDC category it falls in, and the weight range CDC calls healthy for your height. BMI is a quick screening number, not a diagnosis.
Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is stored or sent anywhere.
For adults 20 and older. CDC uses separate, age-based charts for children and teens.
BMI is a screening measure: it does not tell muscle from fat. A provider looks at it alongside your health history.
The method, in the open.
The formula
BMI is weight in kilograms divided by height in meters squared. In pounds and inches, it is weight times 703, divided by height in inches squared.
The categories
CDC’s adult categories: under 18.5 is underweight, 18.5 to under 25 is healthy weight, 25 to under 30 is overweight, and 30 or above is obesity, split into class 1 (30 to under 35), class 2 (35 to under 40) and class 3 (40 and above).
What it misses
BMI does not measure body fat directly and does not distinguish between fat, muscle and bone, so CDC treats it as a screening measure to be considered with other factors when assessing someone’s health.
Where BMI comes in for GLP-1 medications.
The FDA-approved GLP-1 products for chronic weight management are approved for adults with a BMI of 30 or more, or 27 or more with at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes or high cholesterol, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and more physical activity. Freedom RX offers compounded semaglutide and compounded tirzepatide, which are not FDA-approved. Whether any medication is right for you is a licensed provider’s decision, made from your full health history, not from BMI alone.
